Artwork Title|Share Your Auditory Story of Hong Kong (2025)
Form| Participatory Sound Installation
Artist| GUI Ren
Technical Development| Parakrant SARKAR

This participatory sound work invites the audience to contribute their own auditory memories of Hong Kong. Visitors can scan a QR code linking to the project site (sonic-transitions.onrender.com), where they may upload a sound recording (under 10MB) or record their reflections in real-time using a mobile device.

All submitted sounds form a collective sound archive of the city, capturing diverse personal and environmental sonic experiences. On the exhibition screen, these recordings are played back in two ways: automatically cycling through all submissions, or interactively by clicking to hear individual contributions.

In addition to digital uploads, visitors can also handwrite their sonic memories on physical cards available at the exhibition site. These written reflections are displayed alongside the sound archive, offering a tactile and contemplative way to engage with the work.

The work transforms audience members into co-creators, fostering shared listening and multi-layered understandings of place through everyday sound. By merging digital participation with public presentation, the installation explores intimacy, memory, and urban resonance.
